Apple IDs for Staff

PUSD Technology department is excited to offer additional support for Apple technology. Apple has launched a new feature allowing us to provide all staff with a Managed Apple ID. These new Apple IDs will use the SAME usernames and passwords that staff use to sign on to Google.

What are Managed Apple IDs used for?

Managed Apple IDs are accounts used on Apple devices to access Apple services. These services include iCloud, and the ability to collaborate in Pages, Numbers, and Keynote with other users in PUSD. Managed Apple IDs also include 200GB of iCloud storage. This provides a much better experience for classroom communication and collaboration with the ability to manage access to specific applications. It also allows devices, such as teacher Macbooks, to be backed up to iCloud storage in the event the content needs to be restored on a replacement device.

What if I already used my pleasantonusd.net account to create a PERSONAL Apple ID?

PUSD Managed Apple IDs are unique to our district and will now be separate from Apple IDs that you can create for yourself. If you currently have a personal Apple ID that was created using your PUSD email account, you will be contacted by Apple to provide a new email address to associate with your personal Apple ID content. You have up to 60 days to provide a new personal email address before Apple changes your personal Apple ID account to a temporary ID. Any previous purchases or subscriptions you have made will be re-associated with your new personal Apple ID. Additional information can be found here. After going through this process, you will need to log out of all of your PUSD Apple devices and sign back in with your PUSD Managed Apple ID (your PUSD username and password).

Will staff be able to use their Managed Apple ID to download Apps?

No - In order to maintain a focus on education, applications are approved and managed by the district and either auto-installed or available through the PUSD Self-Service application. Apple has disabled the following services for Managed Apple IDs:

  • App Store purchasing
  • iTunes Store purchasing
  • Book Store purchasing
  • HomeKit connected devices
  • HomeKit connected devices
  • Apple Pay
  • Find My iPhone
  • Find My Mac
  • Find My Friends
  • iCloud Mail
  • iCloud Keychain (although, keychain items are saved and restored on Shared iPad

  • iCloud Family Sharing
